This pattern makes a pair of legwarmers to fit age 3-5 (Measures approx 10cm x 18cm) and age 6-8(Measures approx 11cm x 20cm)
NB. To make sure you have an accurate fit it is advisable to make a knitted swatch to check your tension first.
You will Need:-
Materials
Any DK yarn -30-50g depending on the size and fibre composition of the yarn.
Tools
1 set of 3.5mm and 1 set of 4mm circular needles or 1pair 3.5mm and1pair 4mm knitting needles and1 large needle for sewing up knitting.
Abbreviations
st(s) - stitch(es), k - knit, p - purl, beg - beginning
Tension/Gauge
Approximately 20 sts to 10cm, 30 rows to 10cm( this refers to the stitches of the main body of the legwarmer and will vary depending on how tight a knitter you may be).Instructions (Makes 1 leg warmer)
If using standard knitting needles
Cast on 40(44)sts
Row1: k2, p2, continue to end of row
Row2: as row 1
Continue in this way until you have knitted 10 more rows
(this will give you a rib of 12 rows)
Row13: k
Row14: p
Continue in this way until you have knitted 28(36) more rows (42(50) rows altogether)
Row43(51): k2, p2, continue to end of row
Row44(52): as row 43(51)
Continue in this way until you have knitted 9 more rows
(this will give you a rib of 11 rows- you will have knitted 53(61) rows altogether)
Cast off with k2,p2 as you knit last row(54(62) rows including cast off row).
If using circular knitting needles
Cast on 40(44)sts
Row1: k2, p2, continue to end of row
Row2: as row 1
Continue in this way until you have knitted 10 more rows
(this will give you a rib of 12 rows)
Row13: k
Row14: k
Continue in this way until you have knitted 28(36) more rows (42(50) rows altogether)
Row43(51): k2, p2, continue to end of row
Row44(52): as row 43(51)
Continue in this way until you have knitted 9 more rows

Cast off with k2,p2 as you knit last row(54(62) rows including cast off row).
Repeat above process to knit another legging to complete pair.
Fold vertically to match side seams and sew-up.
